Homeschool Resources
Homeschooling offers another educational alternative to Georgia’s parents and students. As the name suggests, instead of being educated in a public or private school, students are educated by a parent or qualified tutor in a home environment.
The term “homeschooling” encompasses a rich array of teaching methods and options designed to meet the needs of individual students and parents. Educating children privately, either through homeschooling, tutoring, or community private schools, is the original American method of education, and was the only option for families until the advent of American private education in the early 19th century. While homeschooling has existed throughout the history of the U.S., the advent of public education brought homeschooling under scrutiny, leading it to be outlawed in many states. The bans on home education remained in place until the right of parents to control the education of their children was officially recognized by the Supreme Court in 1925 (Pierce v. Society of Sisters).
